Scarpa Manta Pro Review ‘The Gold Standard’

For decades, the standard has been set by the Scarpa Manta for 4-season B2-rated boots. They feature a waterproof lining made out of Gore-Tex inside of of an upper that is made out a mixture of synthetic fabrics and leather and full rubber rand. The underside of the boot features a well-stiffened Vibram sole, along with a heel breast and well-spaced, deep lugs for grip. One particularly noteworthy feature is its articulated ankle cuff that provides comfort and support. 5/5

Fit

Scarpa Manta Pro is available in 36-42 sizes for women and 40-50 sizes for men. Compared to some other options, it feels reasonably spacious and wide on the fit, with a closer fit on the ankle compared to other boots. The ankle cuff allows ankle movement while still being snug, and for a even more precise fit, the lacing extends all the way down to the toe. 5/5

Comfort

For being a stiff boot, the Scarpa Manta Pro is quite comfortable on the foot, without any pressure points coming from the ankle cuffs or laces. Whenever you flex your ankle either to the side or forward the cuff moves comfortably along with your foot, while still providing the necessary support. Of course, a less supportive boot is softer on the feet, but it is great for a B2-rated boot. 5/5

Scarpa Manta has a big pedigree among mountaineers and serious mountain walkers for many years. Now updated this classic, brings the Manta very much up to date. The Manta Pro is a truly versatile all season mountain boot perfectly suited to the UK's mountains and climate An improved fit as Its now built on the FT last. The FT last is used in Scarpa's Charmoz model and offers a much more precise and technical fit. The boot is also lighter than the original Manta and more nimble. The Scarpa Manta Pro retains the full B2/C2 crampon compatibility and now comes with a full Goretex lining for even better waterproof and cold weather performance perfect for the UK climate. The ankle flex, cuff, tongue and lace areas have all been improved with microfibre providing enhanced dexterity and flex. The new lacing system introduces a roller system and locking cleat at the ankle flex point. This results in a smooth, customizable adjustment.

In use

A precise and reliable feel is provided by the Scarp Manta Pro when walking, and that is beneficial when crossing glaciers, climbing in the mountains, or crossing deep snow. The ankle movement plays a very important role in the boot’s performance since it provide support very comfortably. There is a crampon that has a heel clip that may be fitted to use on ice, and beneath the snow line provide reasonable rolling action while walking. 5/5

Value

The price of the Scarp Manta Pro is unchanged over the past two years, so although it isn’t cheap, compared to others it does offer a reasonable value. 4/5
