There are many rucksacks that are available for this price. However, not many others offer a buckle lid like this ones does, and it helps the Deuter AC Lite 26 and Deuter AC Lite 22 stand apart from the competition. They also provide you with an Air Contact ‘trampoline’ mesh back system that holds the pack apart from your body. It has a stiffened hipbelt that also provides support for the load. A good lid pocket and stretch side pockets are provided as well. It weighs 960g, which is a drawback. 4/5

Fit

The AC Lite 26 costs £70 and has been designed for men; while the smaller AC lite 22 costs £65 and has been designed for women. Unlike some of the other mid-price range options, the back length does not adjust. However, the sack fit me quite well, with the shoulder straps and hipbelt padded fins both fitting nicely. There are not any top tensioning straps offered. 4/5

Comfort

The ‘trampoline’ of mesh holds the AC Lite 22 and AC Lite 26 away from your body so that it feels comfortable and not overly sweaty. The shoulder straps have soft padded edges and a nice shape, while more comfort is added by the hipbelt fins. This rucksack is much more comfortable than a lot of them that we reviewed due to all of the features it provides and for hillwalkers that makes it an excellent option. 5/5

In use

The Deuter AC Lite 26 is a rucksack that I prefer over many others since I like its comfort and close fit along with the single-bucket lid that it provides. I also like its mesh side pockets and map-sized pocket on the lid. However, I do prefer having an extended snow-lock draw cord to close the main compartment. It would also be nice to have a front stretch external stash pocket. For hillwalkers, overall it is a great rucksack. 4/5

There are may rucksacks available in the £70 to £80 price range. However, when it comes to performance for its price, this one does standard apart. 4/5

Final Verdict

Great airflow over the back and a buckle-lid design makes the Deuter AC Lite 26 and AC Lite 22 ideal for a majority of hillwalkers, despite being a bit heavier than some rucksacks. It has been ‘approved’ by Trail. 4.2/5
