Being as lightweight as possible while providing plenty of living space are the hallmarks of the MSR Elixir 2. Unlike a majority of backpacking tents, the Elixir 2 comes with two spacious porches and two decent-sized entrants. There is good headroom throughout the interior of the tent and not simply underneath the poles. The tent’s outer is made out of ripstop polyester that has a PU coating. 5/5

Design

The MSR Elixir 2 comes with two main poles along with a shorter third cross-pole. The tent is pitched inner-first and the poles are coloured coded, and the attachment points make it an easier task. The pole ends have ladder-lock adjustment which makes it easier as well. Both sides of the tent have a door and they have double zips for plenty of ventilation and access. 5/5

Living space

When it comes to living space, the Elixir 2 truly excels with two huge porches on the outside and the pole design on the inside allowing for walls that are very upright. This results in a maximum 102cm headroom that doesn’t drop too quickly towards the sides. The floor space also doesn’t taper on the ends, so you receive the whole 213cm length. That is shorter than some other tents, but on the ends has good height and features a 127cm with throughout the interior. 5/5

In use

The Elixir 2 features an inner-pitched-first-design. In very wet weather, that isn’t ideal for me, but others might find it tolerable. The flysheet also has a big gap around it. That is good for airflow, however, isn’t great when there is driving horizontal rain. It has a good 2294g weight, but isn’t the lightest option that is available. It does offer outstanding space and is much more stable than a majority of the tents that we have reviewed. 4/5

Value

At £220, the MSR Elixir 2 is a very stable and spacious tent, and for grater durability you get ripstop fabric All of these features make the price quite respectable. 4/5

Verdict

If you would love to have a tent that has plenty of living space for two people to camp in, then the Elixir 2 is ideal for you. However, there are some drawbacks to this tent, that you might or might not be willing to tolerate. The tent won the ‘Best in Test’ award from Trail. 4.6/5
