Features

The Reactive Lighting mode on the Petzl Reactik, which adjusts output automatically to suit the subject’s distance, is a nice bonus. It has a 220 lumen maximum power for 3.5 hours in the function which makes it perfect for hill walkers. Or, the constant output for 12 hours of 40 lumsn is ideal for company. It comes with a rechargeable battery, but you can also use 3 AAA batteries as well. 5/5

Design

The design of the Petzl Reactik is fairly neat and small, and fits inside of a rucksack pocket easily. There is one white bulb on the housing, along with a sensor and red bulb, and two small buttons for controlling functions on the side; however, there are others that have larger buttons. Inside of the front housing is a rechargeable battery pack You can also replace it with a battery housing for 3 AAA batteries. The head straps are easy to adjust and wide. 5/5

Comfort

The Petzl Reactik’s wide straps work quite well since it isn’t too heavy or bulky at only 114g and is very stable and comfortable on the head. Once it is set, its tilt mechanism is secure and precise. There isn’t a top strap included, but I didn’t feel I needed one since the torch doesn’t wobble or slip on the head. It is quite small buttons, but it is comfortable to use them. 5/5

In use

You can easily place the Petzl Reactic inside of a pocket, and it has ideal power output for camping. As discussed above, its lighting mode is perfect for camping in general and navigation. It does take more practice to become accustomed to how to switch in between functions compared to other units, and with with less control. However, that might mean that some users would prefer just having functions that were more basic. 4/5

Final Verdict

For most hill walkers, the Petzl Reactik is an excellent headtorch. However, more lighting control might be offered than you would like to learn how to use or what is really necessary. It wins the approved accolade from Trail. 4.6/5
